The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in Kerala has temporarily relieved a senior parish member of his duties as vicar for joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in violation of rules preventing priests from associating with political parties. The church stated that this was a disciplinary measure and a commission will be formed to investigate the matter.
