A recent India Meteorological Department evaluation shows a significant decrease in rainwater volume compared with the long-term average in various sub-basins across the country following a bad monsoon and impact of the El Nino phenomenon. The analysis of 101 sub-basins — situated within 27 major basins in India — points to a worrying decline in water volumes, ranging from -149 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) to -528 TMC compared to the established benchmarks.
